The science behind Norwex

Norwex’s BacLock technology is so interesting, yet many people don’t quite understand just what is going on behind the scenes (or threads) of their Norwex cloths & towels! There are two compounds that allow Norwex cloths to work the way they do.

FIRST – the MICROFIBER!!! Not just any microfiber that you can buy from your local superstore. Imagine using a ball of plastic to wipe down your countertops. That is basically what using any cotton cloth is equivalent to, because cotton has not been through the splitting process. This means it is not nearly as absorbent, or able to grab and hold as sufficiently, as microfiber. Now imagine looking at your Norwex cloth through a microscope. The fibers look like miniature windmills, each with splits able to swipe and scoop and HOLD ON TO bacteria! Norwex microfiber is 1/200th the size of human hair and the EnviroCloth contains more than 3 million meters of fiber. That blows my mind!

SECOND – Norwex’s BacLock feature! Most people are confused as to how the silver is working to clean their Norwex cloths/towels. The silver does NOT kill bacteria, it DEACTIVATES bacteria – quite the interesting process! How does this happen, you may ask? Just like this:

  1. Breakdown of a cell’s life supporting functions by inhibiting the transmembrane transport, thereby starving the bacterium
  2. Inactivation of intracellular enzymes that“digest the food”
  3. Damage the bacterium cell’s DNA so that it cannot reproduce

So all the bacteria that your microfibers just grabbed up and held onto are introduced to the silver ions, and then deactivated!

Norwex even hired a 3rd party lab to test product effectiveness and they found that Norwex cloths removed 99% of bacteria from surfaces. They also found that cross-contamination does not occur when wiping multiple surfaces, because your cloth literally holds on to all the bacteria until you wash it! If you have any questions about the science behind your cloths, feel free to reach out to me! I’d love to help you find answers.

The New 2018 Product Launch!!

I have some exciting news to share with you guys! Last week, Norwex announced the release of some awesome new products – check them out below!

NEW PRODUCT: Microfiber Cleaner/Laundry Booster (available in October) – I am super excited about this product! As you all know, our microfiber cloths pick up a TON of junk and bacteria. Over time, build up may cause your cloths to smell a bit funky. In the past my favorite way to deep clean my cloths was to boil a pot of water, add a scoop of laundry detergent and let them soak overnight. Not anymore!! Norwex knew about that issue and released this new Microfiber Cleaner! Instead of having to boil water and let your cloths soak overnight, you just need to add a scoop of Microfiber Cleaner to a bowl of warm water and let soak for 30 MINUTES! This Microfiber Cleaner is also a Laundry Booster so if you have any incredibly dirty clothes, you can add it in with your regular load of clothes and detergent and it will remove yucky stains and odors.

Making a HUGE Impact with just a Little Cloth (change)

Today I want to share about the AMAZING Counter Cloths! These cloths can be used just like an Enviro Cloth, but their main goal is to cut down (or completely replace) use of paper towels. These guys are great in your kitchen for so many reasons. They come in a variety of colors to match your own kitchen. The microfiber is textured in a way that maximizes the amount of liquid/food/dirt/etc the cloth can pick up. Anything that you usually grab a paper towel for, these guys can be used instead! They are even shaped just like a half sheet of an average paper towel used for wiping up messes – but these cloths pick up so much more mess, and bacteria, than a regular paper towel. Not only do the Counter Cloths do a better job cleaning (did I mention they remove 99% of bacteria using only the cloth and water?!), but they can really make a wonderful impact on our planet. Did you know 13 billion pounds of paper towels are used each year? That’s over 45 pounds of paper towels per person, per year. Holy cow that’s a lot!

My family decided to totally replace paper towel use with Norwex products instead, and the Counter Cloth is definitely one of my favorites in the kitchen. Maybe your family is not ready to completely stop using paper towels, then maybe you could consider this – 544,000 trees could be saved each year if each US household used JUST ONE LESS roll of paper towels! We can make a huge difference in our environment just by slowly replacing our habits. I challenge you to say no to at least one (or more) rolls of paper towels and use these awesome Counter Cloths instead!

Little Hippo

My 6th born has acquired the nickname of “Little Hippo”. When he hears this name called from afar, a smile soon appears on his sweet face. I feel like I learn more and more about chemicals with each baby that I have. Like the fact that tt only takes 26 seconds for the chemicals in personal care products to enter the bloodstream! That is CRAZY to me! Please guys, read the label on everything that you put on your baby, your children, and on YOU. There are alternatives out there that don’t cause more work for you and keep you little people healthier.

From day 1, we have used the Norwex Baby Cloths on our Little Hippo. This is a mini version of the Body Cloths. This soft microfiber will gently clean skin without needing soap (it even removes makeup really well with only water!). During dry winter months, I like to use Shea Butter on his skin where I notice any dry patches. Using a safe and clear laundry detergent is also SO important for little people skin! Know what’s in your detergent! That’s pretty much it! See, not complicated!

It doesn’t need to be more expensive and harder to be safer with what you use in our home and on our bodies. Make baby steps to improve the quality of life around you and your children will watch you as you grow in this. Happy May and Happy Safe Havens!

The Glorious “Everything” Cloth (aka, Enviro Cloth)

I do believe it’s time for a good review of Norwex’s Enviro Cloth. I like to call this the “everything” cloth because this puppy should be used on almost every single surface of your home with JUST WATER! (no dishes for this guy though). Even think to use it on carpet stains and chocolate milk stains on your white couch (this was me at one point!). What makes the Enviro Cloth so great?

  1. The size of the little fibers. Measuring at 1/200th the size of a human hair, the fibers will remove up to 99% of bacteria from surfaces with just water and NOT spread germs to other surfaces.
  2. The Enviro cloth is PACKED full with 2,000 miles of fiber. That’s longer than the distance from the Canadian border to the Gulf of Mexico! So the cloth is thick and durable.
  3. The fibers are infused with micro silver. Silver prevents bacteria from multiplying (making babies) inside the cloth, self cleaning it between uses. So you simply use the cloth, rinse, hang and let the silver clean the cloth between uses.
  4. Warrantee people. 2 whole years of it! That’s a lot of use for one cloth!

The Enviro cloth gets a solid 10 in my book. It’s amazing what it has cleaned in my home for 5 small kids and a huge dog. Grease, dog messes, spit up, food smears, blood, chicken juice, bathroom grime and more. I haven’t purchased paper towels (sorry, I take that back, I bought 2 rolls for them 2 years ago when we got our puppy) in 4+ years because of this cloth. I believe this product should be in every home!
