A Big Muddy Beast

I have this dog that my husband considers mine. His name is Silas and he is the breed of my choice…a lovely, fluffy, and large Bernese Mountain dog. I’m glad that we got him. Even when I notice all the scratches in the new hardwood floors or the muddy water drops on the walls from his wagging tail. I love how he greets me every morning with a lick and how he expects a walk in the woods everyday (I need some accountability when it comes to exercise!).

It’s what I consider mud season here in Virginia. Growing up in Vermont, we actually had a separate 4th season dedicated for the mud. At the end of the day this Silas dog of mine is totally filthy!!

Last night my husband was on a business trip which doesn’t happen too often but I like having Silas inside sleeping close by to be my watch dog. When I went to bring him in for the night, he looked like a swamp dog that had been prancing around in the mud all day long. Washing him in the tub is crazy, he’s just too big. An easy and quick solution just had to be an option for this tired lady (that just finished putting the 5 kids to bed) so I tried taking a 5 gallon bucket of warm water and the pet wash mitt to see just how effective it would be. Three minutes later, he was clean and ready to slumber inside (although I had to admit that my socks and pajama pants were quite wet afterward!).

On warmer days this is how we tackle such jobs:

Sleeping with the Enemy

I hate to break this to you. This type of thing sometimes is better left unknown while you sleep in peace because knowing what I’m about the tell you will most definitely cause you to loose some shuteye. While you sleep in your cozy beds at night, you very well could be sharing your pillows and mattresses with millions and millions of these guys:

dust-mites

Delightful eh? Dust mites make up 80% of the dust in your home and they live on dead skin cells, fungi & bacteria, and water vapor. We provide these ugly bugs all the nutrition they need to survive and multiply while we sleep. Dust mites also love to live in sofas, dog beds, stuffed animals, etc. but most live in your bedroom!

A single dust mite will produce 20 to 100 fecal pellets per day! Nasty! And this is what people are allergic to. The average person will toss and turn while they sleep 75 times in a single night. When we move in our sleep, dust mite feces expel into the air for us to breath.

I personally sleep a lot better at night when I’m NOT breathing in bug poop (or hearing my husband breath loud from his bug poop allergy). Thank you Norwex Mattress Cleaner!

norwex-mattress-cleaner

The Norwex Mattress Cleaner is an enzyme designed to remove organic material (dead dust mites, dust mite feces, dead skin cells) from mattress, pillows, bedding, and fabric furniture. It also neutralizes nasty odors in your bed (anyone have urine smells or stains in your bed?).

How to Use:

  • Use once every three months (I personally use it on the first day of each season so I remember to keep up on them bugs.
  • Spray directly on mattress, pillow, stuffed toy, etc.
  • 10 sprays for a twin, 15 sprays for a queen, 2 sprays for a pillow.
  • NO DOT use on non-absorbent crib mattress or covers.

How Does this stuff work? The Mattress Cleaner uses enzymes to feed on the dead dust mites, fecal material, pet dander, dead skin cells, and yeast & fungi. The enzymes feed off of these materials until the end result is carbon dioxide and water. When the enzymes are finished eliminating the organic material, they disintegrate! (NO dust mite bones left behind 😉

Please reach out if you have any questions! I have been amazed at the testimonials that I have heard from using this product. People with asthma especially have benefited from the Mattress Cleaner and I’m so excited that there is a simple solution to their breathing problems.

A New Appreciation!

In the past month we have added two new members to the family. Yes two.

First came Silas:

And then came Ariane:

Our daily life is more lively then ever with these little ones which I really really wouldn’t change for the world. I have to admit, with a puppy and a baby in our home, a new found appreciation for Norwex has risen. I have used my Enviro Cloth more then I can remember with puppy accidents and oh man…this lovely product sure comes in handy when we wake up to a nasty NASTY dog crate:

With summer almost here, my four walking kids plus the puppy are always going in and out to play…making my lovely hardwood floor quite drab. The Superior mop is amazing. The dry head picks up the pet hair and any dry crumb laying around and then the wet head makes my floors look like new again in seconds. I probably mostly love that it’s SO fast and easy (which is key in my life!).

I have used my Travel pack throughout the day for spit up spots on my clothes and the UPP laundry detergent non-stop. The fact that Norwex makes my life simple and cost effective is great but I’m so glad that I’m not exposing my new little girl to chemicals. I’m super excited to spread the word even more because everyone needs to at least know that there is another way!
